(DoD).
What is CMMC?
The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) is the Department of Defense’s cybersecurity framework for contractors and subcontractors that establishes security requirements based on the type of government information an organization handles.
CMMC is designed to protect two types of information:
- Federal Contract Information (FCI): Nonpublic information that is provided by or generated for the government as part of a contract to develop or deliver a product or service.
- Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI): Sensitive, government created or owned, unclassified information that the government requires organizations to safeguard under specific laws, regulations, or government-wide policies.
Organizations that handle only FCI must meet CMMC Level 1 requirements, while organizations that handle CUI are required to meet CMMC Level 2 requirements.
What CMMC Level 1 Means
By achieving CMMC Level 1 compliance, LEWCO has:
- Implemented the cybersecurity practices required to safeguard Federal Contract Information.
- Completed the required annual self-assessment and affirmation in accordance with Department of Defense requirements.
- Demonstrated our commitment to protecting customer and government information.
- Strengthened our ability to support Department of Defense customers and participate in defense-related opportunities requiring CMMC Level 1.
Looking Ahead
LEWCO is actively working toward CMMC Level 2 compliance to further strengthen our cybersecurity program and support customers whose contracts require the protection of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). We are on track to achieve this milestone later this year.
