1,000˚F Roller Hearth Furnace
When a magnesium fire destroyed a furnace at a Midwest primary metal producer, LEWCO, Inc., Sandusky, OH responded to deliver a large 1000˚F roller hearth furnace in (7) months. The turnkey project included design, manufacture, installation and commissioning.
Designed primarily for preheating coils, the five-zone conveyor oven has a capacity of 180,000 lbs. when fully loaded. The hot zone is 15 ft. wide x 85.5 ft. long x 9 ft. high. Four of the five zones deliver vertical down air flow to the workspace. The first zone however, which can be separated from the rest of the furnace by a guillotine divider door, features dual air flow to support a proprietary process. In effect the equipment can be operated as a 5-zone, pass through furnace or (2) independent furnaces operating at different temperatures and accommodating load/unload sequences at the same end.
The roller hearth is “loop-to-loop”, chain-driven live roller conveyor featuring 6” diameter alloy steel rollers on 12” centers. The conveyor system is divided into (16) zones, each on a separate drive, which permits zone accumulation capability. In automatic mode, the furnace can be fully loaded, filling zone by zone, and then unloaded without operator intervention.
