LEWCO Employee Spotlight: Meet Will, Design Engineer
At LEWCO, we believe that our people are the organization’s greatest asset! We are proud of our dedicated team of exceptional employees who work hard to support the values of our growing company. We have some pretty remarkable people who have a real passion for they do. So, we thought what better way to show our customers about what life is like inside of LEWCO than to have our own employees share their stories? Read on to meet Design Engineer, William Loar!
WILLIAM LOAR, DESIGN ENGINEER
Will has been an integral part of the LEWCO team ever since he started working here on April 16, 2012. Will graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology & Management (formerly Industrial Technology). He is also a Certified Manufacturing Specialist through ATMAE. Watching Star Trek: The Next Generation as a kid led to Will’s interest in this type of career. He stated that, “I always liked to take things apart to see how they worked. LEGO Technic sets were also a big inspiration for me.”
Will has previous experience in building, running, and managing moving test fixtures to verify the speed and accuracy of barcodes applied to different curved surfaces. He used robots to simulate a cashier’s motion while scanning products at check-out lines. These tests were one of the final steps before implementing the “new” barcodes on produce across the U.S. He was also part of team that designed a device to sterilize cell incubators in medical facilities, as well as, installing biological safety cabinets, or gloveboxes, in a newly constructed lab on the main National Institute of Health campus.
Will’s Responsibilities
Will is currently a Design Engineer for LEWCO Ovens. In his role, he works on developing and designing new and existing company products in SolidWorks. He also creates product drawings, and is involved in testing the performance of LEWCO’s products. Will’s knowledge about company products, expertise in SolidWorks CAD software, and his ability to team with other personnel to meet customers’ needs makes him a valuable part of the LEWCO team!
Do you have any “Hidden Talents”?
A hidden talent of mine is computer programming.
If LEWCO were a TV Show, which character – from any sitcom, drama or reality show – would represent you?
I would consider myself to be like Howard Wolowitz from the show Big Bang Theory.
