Multiple Chamber Field Assembled Oven Increases Production
Recently, LEWCO, Inc. was the chosen supplier to design, fabricate, and install a field assembled oven for a manufacturer of industrial components. The electrically heated oven has a maximum operating temperature of 350°F and will be used to cure silicone in hoses.
The customer indicated the need to increase their production rate and therefore requested the oven to have three separate workspace chambers to run multiple batches. Each zone is 5 ft. X 14 ft. X 7 ft. and is equipped with a 5,500 CFM high-efficiency circulation fan and a 100 CFM exhaust fan. A stack light is included above each zone to notify the operator when a batch is complete. The oven is required to be NFPA 86 Class A rated due to the solvents being present in the workspace.
Oven controls include a Eurotherm 3216 temperature controller with a redundant high-limit controller to provide precise temperature control and over-temperature protection for each chamber. A 6-channel data logger is included to record temperature data from six thermocouples throughout the oven. This allows the customer to monitor different points throughout the workspace to ensure that the products are staying within the desired temperature uniformity. The controls for all three zones are mounted in one common electrical enclosure and controlled through a Human Machine Interface.
