Petrochemical Company Chooses LEWCO Constant Temperature Cabinet
When a leading petrochemical company couldn’t find a manufacturer for their equipment requirements, they turned to the engineers at LEWCO for help. The equipment, a custom Constant Temperature Cabinet, will be used to store and maintain the chemical properties of oil additives contained in 55-gallon drums.
The cabinet can hold up to 16 55-gallon drums and features an integrated 186 gallon spill containment sump. It utilizes an industrial custom HVAC unit with 12,000 BTU’s/ Hr. capacity to hold temperatures between 40°F. and 70°F. Maintaining this temperature is critical because if the oil additives reach 86°F. hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas is created. Hydrogen Sulfide is colorless, flammable, and extremely hazardous, so safety was a big concern for the customer.
A redundant high-limit controller with audible and visual alarms was incorporated due to the hazardous nature of the product. For additional safety, LEWCO Controls Engineers made provisions for the customer to connect an H2S monitoring system that will prevent the unit from operating if any gases are present. The Constant Temperature Cabinet will be kept in a non-climate controlled warehouse. In order to prevent freezing of contents during cold weather, a 5 kW electric heater bank was installed to act as a backup during extreme conditions.
According to Industrial Ovens Applications Engineer, Mike Luli; “This customer purchased a Constant Temperature Cabinet from one of our competitors a little over a year ago and unfortunately it didn’t last long. It was built cheap. Given the volatility of the materials being stored and the cabinet’s location, we knew we needed reliable industrial grade equipment with redundancy and safety systems. We gave them exactly that. We gave them something built to last.”
